Raymond Kay was convicted of the murder of Amy Shepherd 86.
He murdered her in August 1994 but was not convicted until May 2019.
He was identified after new DNA testing was carried out in 2018 on a tea-towel that had been used as a ligature.
At the time of her murder, Raymond Kay had been carrying out a community service order and had been delivering 'meals on wheels' to her accommodation.
Amy Shepherd was found dead in her flat with wounds caused by a knife that was found at the scene. She had been beaten, strangled and had had her thraot cut and then sexually assaulted.
Another man was tried for her murder in 2000 but acquitted. THe other man had been convicted of murdering another old woman near by at about the same time.
